African lion ( Panthera leo )
Baringo, 10 year-old male
His story : Baringo was found on a road in september 2004. He was only a few weeks old, a very young cub. People were driving when they saw an animal on the border of the road. They were very surprised to see a little lion ! The police thought it was a joke. It was later found that Baringo belonged to a circus. He fell from the circus's truck. Transfered from the police office to the Refuge, he grew up here, raised by the director and his family. He has now a nice life, in a big enclosure with two lionesses. Much better than in a circus cage !

The Refuge de l'Arche is not a zoo, it's a rescue facility for wild animals : exotic animals and local fauna. It's paired with a rescue center which take care of local wild animals ( orphans, injured ones... ) : if they heal, they're realeased in the wild, if they can't be released, they're transferred to the Refuge.
